Welcoming Mrs. Patricia Minnis as the New Chairperson of SCLAN

Handing Over Ceremony

On Thursday, February 18th, the Spouses of CARICOM Leaders Action Network (SCLAN) held its official Handing Over Ceremony, where Mrs. Kim Simplis Barrow handed over chairmanship to Mrs. Patricia Minnis, Spouse of the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.

The event highlighted the work of SCLAN in the region since its inception and also provided an opportunity to bring together donors who shared their experience in supporting the network. Mrs. Kim Simplis Barrow – Outgoing Chair, commended the First Ladies for their unselfish service and stressed the importance of the organization’s work, noting that “Now, more than ever, we must ensure that prevention efforts are scaled up. Much has been done in our respective countries but we cannot afford to adopt an attitude of complacency; especially with the added threat of the COVID-19pandemic.”

Through her tenure, the Network has participated and undertaken the planning and execution of various events and activities with emphasis on fostering synergies and strengthening partnerships, secured various grants, and the creation of public awareness videos. Our goal was to create a “mini Shuga” series to highlight key issues in the Caribbean. This four-part mini-series is set in the Caribbean and will help viewers to realize and understand the interconnectivity of our lives through awareness and conscious decision making

We are pleased to share with you the Highlight Video from our Official Handing Over Event, where spouses and partners thanked Mrs. Kim Simplis Barrow for her leadership in the formation of SCLAN and in being its founding Chair, along with Mrs. Granger, former First Lady of Guyana. We thank all of our partners and participants that joined us for this very special event.
