The She for Belize Foundation

Supporting Initiatives to Advance the Rights of Women and Girls

In 2017, Mrs. Simplis Barrow founded the SHE for BELIZE Foundation under the banner of her 20,000 Strong Women’s Empowerment Campaign. Through this foundation, Mrs. Simplis Barrow aims to advocate for and support initiatives to advance the rights of women and girls.

Through this Foundation Mrs. Barrow continues to advocate for the need for women's economic health; family life education in schools and the media; the need for information on sexual and reproductive health; the need for creative means of distributing contraceptives; the development of an educational campaign around HIV/AIDS prevention; and the need for universal health coverage and access to integrated health and social services for all citizens.

In an effort to educate women and girls on the importance of women’s empowerment, unity, financial health and product diversification, Mrs. Kim Simplis Barrow visited the women of the Rio Blanco Women’s Group in the Toledo District, where she was proud to assist them in the selling of their beautiful multi-purpose, hand-woven baskets.

The baskets, which were made by the Jippy Jappa palm, a palm native to the Toledo District, were available for purchase at Mirab Home Store on North Front Street from March 13th, 2017 to April 1st, 2017.

Every basket purchased assisted in helping to create jobs and fight social and financial exclusion for the women in the group.
